Curious—for those interested in the 12” that don’t already own a longer barrel 6ARC, what’s the appeal of it that a 12” 6.8SPC won’t do? I thought the appeal of 6ARC was for BC and velocity to get out to 1k easily (eg longer barrels)?

You make a good point.

Were I not building a 6ARC target gun on an Odin 18” pipe, I’d probably do a 12” in 6.5 Grendel which I was actually thinking of doing a year ago. For me, it’s to have one in the same caliber. Don’t really have a use for the SBR (I have 5.56 and 300blk SBRs already) but since I have the lowers to put it on, what the heck!

How's a 12" 6.8 SPC compare to this info?

According to Hornady data, a 12" barrel will push a 108gr bullet at 2,345fps with the right powder. With a 200yd zero that load will be about 462" low at 1000yd. Estimated velocity is 1,147fps.

The same load from an 18" barrel should be 2,575fps. With a 200yd zero this load will be 372" low at 1000. Estimated V is 1,259fps.

Because I want to launch roughly 100 gr bullets, and from a 12.5” barrel I’d get roughly the same velocity as a Grendel but with greater BC, maybe. The goal being maximum range with an impact velocity above 2,200fps, for flattening critters. I don’t prefer longer barrels because suppressor. I’ll probably keep shooting my Grendel for now, but if this thing really has any military acceptance, like they claim, it may be a better choice in the future.

6.8 SPC does not enter into my consideration in comparison to the ARC. Opposite approach. I’m sure its cool and all.

Very cool. Didn’t realize the 12” 6ARC would keep it supersonic to 1k. That is unique.

Not trying to start anything resembling a caliber war (and it doesn’t appear anyone took it that way)—genuinely curious what folks were looking to do with an SBR 6ARC (aside from the “just because” if you are also going with a longer barrel upper as well—I totally get that!).
