I read a lot of history books and what strikes me most is the courage of the men in a contested amphibious landing. Standing in those boats listening to the incoming rounds hammer the ramp knowing that it is going to drop any second and then running out when it does takes some big cojones.

Yeah, there was no good way to do that. Some landing craft were blown out of the water, others were on fire, all around were guys who went over the side and promptly went to the bottom never to be seen again. And even if you made it onto the beach, your troubles were really only just starting.

The scary part is how much worse it might have been had Rommel been on the job June 6 and had Hitler been awake and released all his reserves.

Last night I was really pissed off, I was done with news so I thought I will go to AHC, History or maybe Discovery and watch a tribute to those that went ashore that day. NOTHING on those channels AHC had something about the Mafia and History had a special about trans gendered aliens visiting earth and having sex with whales.

So I called my dad and thanked him for what he did that day.

I'd say that if you asked all the people genuflecting at the alter of Floyd what occurred on June 6, 1944 you would probably just get a blank stare in return.

TCM showed a D Day movie. That was about it.

I think we should buy the QVC channel and show NOTHING but military documentaries.
