The Chomsky quote is ironic, considering some of the other things he's said over the years, but in that particular instance he's not wrong.
You have a right to wear any offensive symbol you'd like, but my belief in freedom of speech does not obligate me to accept, apologize for, or defend what that particular symbol stands for.
Agreed.
An important facet of free speech is that it allows bad ideas to be defeated in the light of day, instead of relegating them to the shadows where they can grow without proper condemnation. Defending the right to express an opinion isn't the same as minimizing how abhorrent a particular idea or opinion might be.
And conversely, attempting to downplay a truly evil idea isn't the same as defending freedom of speech.
I'm not defending the mob attacking someone for wearing a swastika.
But just because the mob attacked that woman, it doesn't automatically make her a champion of free speech for wearing the arm band. Last I checked, most people who advocate or sympathize with national socialism aren't exactly big fans of free speech themselves.
Yep, that mob was wrong for attacking that woman, And Antifa behave like a group of totalitarian political thugs, because that's what they are. No argument with that.
None of that is a revelation. Are you suggesting that someone wearing a reproduction Nazi arm band might not understand its implied meaning? That they don't understand most people will take it as a political statement in support of that meaning? I find that hard to believe.
At the very least she was trolling a group of people she knew would most likely react violently.

For me, it all goes back to Alynskis Rules for Radicals. Make the "other guy" live up to HIS OWN RULES. The Left CANNOT detach themselves entirely from their over the top and decades long defense of "Free Speech". It creates a rift in them, the older generation actually STILL BELIEVES in free speech, hate speech and all...The new Red Guards will burn books, shout people down, beat them etc.....Any fractures we can create in them is a good thing.
The truth can only offend those who live a lie.
Oh I'm all for free speech. If you want to rock an Nazi armband with your Covid mask, rock on! If you want to support people who do so, samesies. Just don't be shocked when most of us roll our eyes and walk away. Everyone has an equal right to play stupid games and win stupid prizes. Me? I'll be over here in my corner, rocking my casual, nondescript, unadorned low-vis t-shirt and cargo pants, saying nothing at all to anyone. Don't want nothing, don't need nothing, but I've have plenty to give if the need arises.
What if this whole crusade's a charade?
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine…
When talk of conservative revolutions starts going public instead of "safely" online, folks in higher places should start taking notice...

^^This approach’s perfection.
A true "Gun Guy" (or gal) should have familiarity and a modicum of proficiency with most all firearms platforms.

I'm going to pick on you a little, understand it's not meant in a serious way, not personal, but only to advance the discussion- but your post is somewhat problematic, you don't get to just "hang out" anymore.
It was Trotsky that said, "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.” ....That's who these people fundamentally are.
Everybody just wants to be left alone to do their own little things. That is how we allowed ourselves to get where we are, we let them "run the table" while we "did our thing". You don't get to "opt out" on this anymore because THEY won't let you. The changes we are seeing in this country will affect EVERYONE in every little pissant town and village. You think the Kulaks of Ukraine thought the goings on in distant St. Petersburg were going to end up with them starving to death or in Gulag labor camps? And yet it did.
There is no "grey man" grey enough to escape what is coming. Your membership on this site ASSURES that fact by itself.
So, while you don't need to light your hair on fire and join the most howling mad mob you can find....You better pick a side and find some serious friends, you'll need them. As Reagan said, "It's time for choosing".
