    Stake em'.

Castle nuts and end plates are often neglected on the technical side of things. Staking and correct torque are quite often overlooked. It only takes a few minutes to do the job right on a RE. We should never cut corners on tools that we trust our lives with.

wow - this is a very nicely staked nut. Are you staking it at the angle towards the castle nut or straight down into the end plate?

I stake with the punch slightly angled toward the castle nut.

I think it's important to support the tube with a piece of round bar or a socket inside to prevent egging of the end plate, and to allow a good stake with one soft hit of a smaller hammer.

Threads lubed with Moly Disulfide grease and torqued to 40 ft/lbs, it ain't ever rattling loose, staked or not.

    One I did last week.

They don't need to be pretty like most of the ones on the page, they just have to work.

I'll be "that" guy and ask the silly/obvious (to most but I still am wondering,LOL) question ! Do you typically use a flat faced punch or a pointed one ? Thanks
