I’ll always easy to tell a mob apart from just people milling around, which is becoming more and more common in urban areas. Personally, my decision tree looks something like if you wanna make noise slap on the car around I’ll sit there and smile. You start taking objects against the car and I’m gonna start rolling slowly, I see a gun or they break a window and it’s pedal to the floor and I don’t give a crap until I’m well clear. Picture those cargo vans in Cairo a few years back.
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

If they’re slapping on the window, it’s time to be gone. They’re going to just increase in violence.

I'm a big fan of avoidance, and doing your best to be aware of a clear way to drive out if need be. Also having a vehicle with enough ground clearance to go offroad or over a curb/median in order to clear out before things get stupid.
However... sometimes you don't get a choice, like the fellow in the SUV.
Although I must admit... I do take a bit of perverse delight in watching reality kick in when people realize you can't stop a V6/V8 powered multi-ton vehicle with your body... If only the repeated lessons would sink in.

I was sitting in my nearest major city the other day in traffic on my way home from a doctor's appointment. The street the doc is on is only about two streets over from where some major statue-toppling riots have gone down. Usually I try to stay in the far left or right lane so I can have an out, but this time I found myself in a sedan sandwiched in the middle between a semi-truck that had been rear-ended and everyone else who had gotten backed up in and around the light.
Sometimes you just don't have a choice...

There was a second gunman at 15 seconds on driver side after he was out of intersection.

As others have said, the best tactic is avoidance.

Daisy Luther just posted this snippet in one of her "Organic Prepper" pieces today that seemed relevant:

Pay attention to baseline. Baseline is the general atmosphere of a place. If everyone is calm and singing, and then suddenly you begin to hear a lot of shouting, that’s a shift in baseline. If the mood goes from celebratory to angry, that’s also a shift in baseline. When baseline changes, that is your early warning to leave immediately. Trust your instincts and don’t talk yourself out of taking action.

Doesn't do any good if you don't have door resistant panels also.

Drive through, push through, ram through.

Don’t put yourself in that situation but if it happens protect your family.

This is what was called “switched on” years ago- being in tune to your environment. Watching for fast movements, watching people’s hands and faces. Listening, not just hearing, the sounds around you. Paying attention to people’s manner of dress- is someone out of place? I.e., wearing a heavy coat in July, etc...
