19yrs old is a man and has always been a man. This coddling of our youth with an intense focus on esteem and post-modern relativism has resulted in the current bastardiszation of 'manhood' and masculinity. Men are cucked and have allowed themselves to be. For tail. For tail that has also doesn't understand their place and their role.
Sorry for the tangent. Glad to see some more lost souls find their way home.
I understand what people are saying, but I have no problem recognizing these MEN were still technically in their teenage years. We lost a LOT of good men that day, some who were so young they were still in their teens. First year of the war we had guys as young as 17 fighting in combat.
Jack Lucas was probably the youngest, and certainly the youngest to win the Medal of Honor at age 17. But while technically a teenybopper who should have been chasing skirts and hanging out at the local soda counter, he was doing serious man shit. Lucas lied about his age and entered the Marines at 14 and he turned 17 five days before he participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima.
I think the "mourning our youth" thing (not that we didn't ever not do it) mostly comes from Vietnam where we sent a lot of inexperienced people of the same age into combat who did not have the same maturity as their counterparts in World War II.
Back on topic, I'm glad Charlton Ferguson and William Tucker were identified and laid to rest in their hometowns.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
