    Argentina wants Strykers

You wonder how a country whose economy is a perpetual basket case can afford these. Must be some serious FMS credits?

"WASHINGTON, July 6, 2020 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Argentina of twenty-seven (27) M1126 Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $100 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency
delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today."

Would these be new units or something we have "lying around"?
The truth can only offend those who live a lie.

They can use them against the British during "Falkens round 2" or are they buddies now?

#1 - No, the saber-rattling cycle of the Argentine government seems to be in a moderate upswing. The 1982 war was a domestic distraction that went really poorly for the ruling junta, but the Malvinas never leaves government policy. Also, when the UK looks feckless, the Argentines love to agitate.

#2 - The present government is leftist, but Argentine Left. They are especially broke right now which is why the Left ended up back in power. There is a new negotiation on a bailout underway with the big creditors.

#3 - Smart realpolitik. The Argentine armored force is getting old and their other perpetual frenemy Chile has them outclassed. The US can sell them some newer Strykers, likely just rehabbed, that will have some decent capabilities and moderate ownership cost. The modest order doesn’t change the balance of power but gives the Argentines bragging rights. I do wonder if they are flat bottom or the newer IED resistant Strykers.
