    Stock Saddle?

    Gents,

I'm a newbie. I just took my first and only AR out for the second time last weekend.

I've got a "M4" collapsible stock. I don't like the cheek weld (or lack thereof). I shoot using iron sights.

I'm thinking of getting a "stock saddle" or cheek piece. The only ones I've seen are CAA's:
    http://www.commandarms.com/product.asp?pID=237
    http://www.commandarms.com/product.asp?pID=152

I'm hesitant to put anything CAA on my rifle, but this seems like a decent solution to my problem. Does anybody but CAA make something like this?

No, I don't want to change out my whole stock for a Magpul CTR or a LMT Sopmod or a VLTOR. Any other suggestions?

    I don't need storage, either.

    Please advise,

Had a stock saddle and thought it was nice, but after I removed it, didn't miss it. Still prefer the CTR to M4, but "running and gunning," I don't even miss that. I recommend leaving it, err, stock.

I've got a CAA stock saddle sitting in a drawer. I used it before I bought my CTR. Send me a PM with your address and I'll stick it in the mail to you.

FWIW, the stock saddle is a good product.

SDCromer, I just sent you a PM.

I wasn't looking for a hand-out, but I appreciate the offer, and I'm going to take you up on it!

This isn't a handout; it's required to maintain my good gun karma

One of the guys here on the forum sent me something for free so I'm just paying it forward.

Way to go sdcromer--And I like the CAA side saddle too. Get the SOG rubber buttplate from Brownell's and you will have a completely different, comfortable, firearm. The buttplate is excellent. Doesn't slip, and is a soft, but hard rubber. It slips on real tight. It may not be the big buck stock, but it sure beats a reg. M4 stock for comfort, and sturdiness. I love my combo. I won't own another M4 coll. stock without both of these add-ons. Just my .02.

I have this exact setup on my first AR (now it's my wife's). You are exactly right about it feeling completely different in a positive way. The SOG buttpad is a very nice item. I got the regular stocksaddle and put some wide Velcro (soft side of course) on it and it is very comfortable.

+1!! I too have given and received an item or two with the Pay It Forward thread. We need to have more people like this on M4C. I'll put in a good word to the Karma gods for you

To address the topic of this post, I ran into the same problem you did...not liking the sight picture I got without a stock saddle. I purchased the CAA item you're referring to, and it fixed all my problems. It's light, and doesn't add too much width to the stock. IMO, it's worth it.

A man with a gun is a citizen. A man without a gun is a subject.

    Hi All,

I'm glad I could get us all in the X-mas spirit... I just gave 100+ rounds of .380ACP to a co-worker who needs it to do our firearms qualification for our CCWs tomorrow. He's got a Makarov chambered for .380, I reload for my SIG P230 — you get the picture.

Last night I just ordered the ProMag rubber buttstock recoil pad. I don't know how nice the comparable SOG item is, but Midway sells the ProMag piece for $6.70.

    Thanks, again, sdcromer!

PS: CitizenSoldier16, weren't you once going to send me a couple 10-round magazines? I never got them. I don't mind if you didn't send them, I'm just worried that they're lost in the mail...

I hadn't thought of doing this (the ugly thought of covering the top of my stock with foam pipe insulation DID occur to me). Now I've got to do this to sdcromer's stock saddle as soon as it gets here...
