The saddle actually helps hold the pad on nice and tight. You can get the wide Velcro from the craft section of Walmart. Glad that you like the saddle.
This is what I need to do...

The problem is, the saddle has to be right at the back of the stock for the tabs to fit in the grooves on the stock. I'll probably need to trim the mounting brackets, which is no big deal, because I kind of want to dremel off the sling slots, anyway.

The nearest Wal-Mart is a 3-hour drive (I live in the middle of nowhere)! I'll find something at the local arts and crafts store, I'm sure...

As for SOG vs. ProMag, the ProMag fits nice and tight, it just interferes with the saddle.

The ProMag doesn't add as much pull as I'd thought it would... it's 1/2" inch long, but most of that wraps around the buttstock. It really only seems to add 1/8" of pull or so.
For now, I'll just leave it off. I want to spend my free time shooting, not at my workbench!

You definately live in the middle of nowhere if Walmart is three hours away. My saddle went on incredibly easy, which surprised me. I read The Book of the AR 15 Vol. 2 by Patrick Sweeney and he said that the stock saddle is a great deal, but it took three people to put his on. This kind of made me nervous, but I put mine on, took it off, put the buttpad on, and put the saddle back on in a half hour by myself.

The problem I see with most of these saddles on a M4 stock is that you cannot use the charging handle while in the collapsed position. IMHO, that is a major issue on any gun intended for self protection.

I don't see any good reason to have one on a carbine.
