I've had a couple of people shoot my rifle with the velcro on the saddle and they all look at it a little funny until they put it up to their cheek. It does improve the feel on the non-rubberized version. Use the wide stripped Velcro for best results.

Thumbs up to sdcromer. This arrived yesterday.

I haven't finished installing it yet, but I'm fairly impressed. The design makes sense, and the plastic seems to be of the same quality as my M4gery stock or MIAD or PMAGs.

I think that if MagPul made these, then they'd sell like hot cakes for $35 (nothing against MagPul).

    Thanks again, sdcromer,

    Bimmer

I won't own another M4 coll. stock without both of these add-ons. Just my .02.
I've got the stock saddle on — thanks again, sdcromer! — but my ProMag rubber buttpad won't fit at the same time.

The mounting brackets for the stock saddle are almost flush with the butt plate of the stock, so the rubber buttpad can't wrap all the way around.
I'm hesitant to trim either, for now...

I know that I'm an idiot for buying anything from ProMag, but at a third of the price of the SOG piece, for what's only a piece of rubber, I couldn't resist. I wonder if the SOG piece has the same issues?

    The bad news:
Installing the stock saddle was a real PITA. The captured nuts kept falling out of where they belonged as I tried to install it. I ultimately had to glue the nuts into place.

    The good news:
The saddle is rock solid on my M4 buttstock — as solid as my MIAD pistol grip — though of course my collapsible stock itself has a bit of wobble.

Now I've just got to find a big piece of velcro or self-adhesive felt for the cheekpiece...

My first AR had that exact configuration, with the rubber pad kinda stretched around the saddle's screws. I took it off once, just to clean it out, then re-installed as it came. It was a PITA, but once on, solid. I wouldn't buy either again (nor am I spending $20 on a CTR pad), but that's just me. From memory, I thought both saddle and pad were nice to have.

Since you got it, might as well make it work!

    This is what I'm thinking...

I'll take the rifle to the range at least once as it is, because I'm not in a hurry to mess with un-installing, modifying, and then re-installing the stock saddle.

I can easily envision myself dremelling some of the mounting brackets away so that the buttpad will fit. I figure that if I do this correctly, then the stock saddle will actually help to pinch the rubber buttstock in place.

Did you put the buttpad on before you installed the saddle? I made the mistake of putting my saddle on first and the pad (I use the SOG) would not fit, so I took the saddle back off and put the pad on, then the saddle. The saddle actually helps hold the pad on nice and tight. You can get the wide Velcro from the craft section of Walmart. Glad that you like the saddle.

I've got a "M4" collapsible stock. I don't like the cheek weld (or lack thereof). I shoot using iron sights.

I'm thinking of getting a "stock saddle" or cheek piece. The only ones I've seen are CAA's:

I'm hesitant to put anything CAA on my rifle, but this seems like a decent solution to my problem. Does anybody but CAA make something like this?

No, I don't want to change out my whole stock for a Magpul CTR or a LMT Sopmod or a VLTOR. Any other suggestions?

    I don't need storage, either.

    Please advise,

i have two of these on two of my iron sighted AR-15s

they are great for getting the cheek weld you want..., try one, you will like it, and NO, i do not believe any others exist, for the money, you can not go wrong.

I still say go with the SOG rubber buttplate. Anyone with a C&R can get it from Brownell's for cheaper than 20.00. It takes some wiggling to get it on, but it's a nice secure tight fit.
