    WOW...that chart helps ALOT. Thanks!!!

Based on that I would most certainly go with the 100 yard zero for self defense...ESPECIALLY being able to use that bottom of the reticle for 25yds and less.

I would only use the 25 yard zero if I was doing precision shooting, hunting, out to that 300 yard distance.

Note this round is probably closer to a 50/170 yard zero.

I used a velocity of 2551 from a 16" barrel, scrounged off the web, so YMMV...

Ok....that brings me back to probably using the 100yd zero based on what I am looking for (and the lower reticle hold for under 25yd)....it seems to be the least deviation out to 150yds using the practice of use I have described. It looks to me I would likely be within about 1/2" to 25yds (reticle line hold)....then no more than about 1/2" all the way out to 125 yds....with anything past that will likely need some type of holdover.

At least that is how I am interpreting all this.

And thanks again for doing that with the calculator....that was very helpful. I had seen that before and tried using that but my ignorance or unfamiliarity of what all these numbers in that Hornaby calculator made it difficult.

    50yd zero will keep you +\- 1.6” from 18-215yds

100yd zero is fine too, just practice and know what your hits are. Will 1.6” matter?

Zeros are personal to how your brain works. To me, a 50 yard zero is totally retarded and worthless. But my brain (as a nutty reloader) gets the bullet flight path from zero to 100 yards. I understand that some folks don't instinctively get hold over at short distance. NOT everyone thinks the same... that's OK.

So for me... The 100 yard zero is simple and easy.... hold a little high inside of 50 for a precision shot, and hold a little high from 200-300 with a common sense idea of bullet flight path.

That only works with a sight above bore of 1.6". With the AR, 2.7" is more likely, and that will affect your poi at 25 yards. I believe your 100 yard zero would be ~ 1.5" high at 25, + - 1" from 45 to 150 yards. Yes, exact bc and velocity would affect this, but not materially due to the short range involved.

Why are you worried about staying within 1 inch of poa? Is your neighborhood infested with borrowers?
