The 1997 AWB may well have popularized the G26/G27 but the 1994 AWB had no part in their development.

The 26 and 27 were introduced in 1994, concurrent with the AWB and were in development for a couple years prior. The double recoil spring system used in the Gen 4 and 5 was developed for the G26 /G27.

The G26 was introduced in 1995, but that is probably a better way to put it. It's development was altered by the '94 AWB. The G26 could have had a higher capacity in the same size envelope as the G27, since the round is smaller. That is where I think the AWB of '94 had some influence.

I remember well when they came out; I was on a list at the local gun shop and got one of the first 27's they got in. I'm thinking maybe late '95?

I have both the Gen 5 G22 MOS and a Gen 3 G22 that I had had an extra slide milled. I also had a Gen 4 G22 but recently sold it. The Gen 5 slide is 1.08" wide while the Gen 3 is 1.00" A G37 45 GAP slide is 1.12" wide. The Gen 5 fits my JM Customs 2.5 AIWB with the addition of slightly longer tension screws. It will not fit my Safariland 6365 RDS or 6354DO holsters. It will fit any holsters I have for my G37 or G21 by tightening the tension screws. To me it is noticeably softer shooting than my Gen 3 and even the Gen 4 that I sold. It seems comparable to my Gen 4 G35 which has a longer thus heavier slide.

JM custom is now doing holsters for the Gen 5 .40 calibers.

Most G34/35 slides weight the same as G17/22 slides - that’s why they have the cut out on top of the slide. The exception being Gen 5 34 slides which lack the cut out.

It’s not on the drop down menu yet. They advised to order for the appropriate Glock model then note that it’s for a Gen 5 .40 cal in the comments section.
