Correct. They no longer think that the dust cover is necessary to prevent feed lip spread, and have said as much.

    I assume they still do.
But what does the manufacture know anyway.
Magpul recommended the covers not for storage but for rough transport as in air delivery to prevent rounds from popping loose. They have never stated the covers were necessary for preventing feed lip deformation.

So if 20 year old Themolds and Orlites were working just fine in 2002, I suspect Pmags are gonna be okie dokie.

    That's not what I meant

    Wow. I forgot about those.

I've tried to forget the PoS Thermold magazines, they were the reason I was slow on starting to use Pmags. I've had Thermold magazines fail within 2 years of being made. I do still have a few, one is cut off to use as a brass catcher for my AR 57 upper. 😉 Best use I ever got from one. The Thermold Magazines I got in early 90s from doing some joint training with PPCLI they didn't like them too back then.
Back on Pmags and otherwise I'll have to look into some of my stash I know many I've got have been loaded for way past 10 years. I did get a batch of AR-10 pattern magazines that failed just being loaded replaced no questions or response and fast replacements sent. That was probably 5 years ago.

There are only two reasons I'd ever buy a Thermold, and no way in HELL would I ever pay even ten bucks for it.

    1. As a "firsthand learning" sample to give hands-on experience about "this is why serious people don't use this crap."
    2. A combat-load set to go with a Canadian C7 or C8 strictly for display purposes only.

Their stripper clips seem okay, but that's about it.

friends don't let friends buy psa and thermold!

on the flip side, I'm a fan of hexmags and have used them with great success in all temp ranges and conditions. While I've had body swell with pmags, I've not experienced a single issue with my any of my hexmags
