    A gift from a friend

My friend’s father passed away recently & my friend discovered a very well maintained Uzi & S&W 19 357. She is scared of guns & decided to give them to me because they are not licensed where we are. I’m having trouble posting the pictures using my iPhone.

Something is wrong with my phone( due for a replacement next month), I’ve been able to send pictures on email but not on this site. Anyway the Uzi’s charging handle is a little loose but is locked in once charged, other than that it seems to be in really good condition. I’ve not been able to test fire it due to it not being licensed & it will attract too much attention here. The S&W 19-2 is in very good condition and have fired 30 rounds of old 357 cartridges that came with it. It experienced 3 failures to fire using new Armscor 357 FMJ but fired( made sure to wait just in case it was a delayed Primer) after inspecting the primers and trying again. The rubberised handle seems to make firing the gun comfortable & easy to grip.

So a few things. If the charging handle is loose there is a flat screw on top of it that you need to tighten down.

Then the question is do you have a Uzi SMG or a semi auto Uzi carbine?

If you have a Uzi SMG it has a ratcheting top cover that holds the charging handle and bolt in place if the bolt isn't fully retracted. This prevents a slip fire as the firing pin is machined into the bolt face. Slip fire sometimes happens with M10 type SMGs where the bolt is released before it is fully locked open and is able to strip a round out of the magazine. But even with a Uzi SMG once the bolt is locked open, the charging handle will move forward, it is non reciprocating.

If you have a Uzi semi auto carbine, there is nothing that should ever hold the charging handle back.

Look at the back of your Uzi and it will be marked Uzi SMG, Uzi Carbine Model A or Uzi Carbine Model B.
