I own a 553, Steel lower, Diopter, 8", 4 position gas valve. Great rifle, it's now an SBR (went with the fixed length folding stock, Swiss, added a B&T optic rail, a SIG flash hider for my suppressors, B&T quad handguard ordered. I am also planing on purchasing a B&T APC 223, 9" which I will SBR. I got mine through Dave with JDI and it took around 6 months, but was well worth it and Dave is a stand up guy.
I think the quad rail, while overly heavy, is a necessity on a 552/553 that actually gets used.

I feel like I need to add the quad rail to my order now.
Anything that makes it such a necessity? Or is it just the typical foregrip, light, ect?
Mags. Lots of mags. I would also recommend some spare parts if you plan on shooting a lot. Not that the 55x breaks parts, but I like having spare parts. A spare bolt head, piston, a couple recoil springs, cocking handle, gas valve, rubber dust covers with rivets. Spare barrels too if you want to really have your bases covered.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.

The plastic handguard gets very hot very quickly if you shoot it for normal strings of fire. I will respectfully disagree with you on this. The 552/553 handguard is a total afterthought. The quad rail should come standard. And the quad rail needs significant lightening.

Should I buy an SG 551P?
Why do the loudest do the least?
