Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 or Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44

This is tough. Both $1,000, both have great reticles, both are lightweight, both seem to have decent glass for the price point.

Any opinions (preferably experience with either or both optics) on which is the better scope?

I don't really need illumination (it'd be nice, but I have it now and never use it) so I don't want that to sway me.

I've only ever usually bought Leupolds but I'm up for trying the Vortex as I've heard great things about them.

I'm a made in the USA fan and for me the glass and low light is better on the VX5 HD. Vortex makes decent stuff but for the same price I still give the edge to Leupold.

Of those two--the Leupold. Note that with that particular model of the Leupy, there's an option to get a mil ("HTMR") reticle as well.

Between the two, I think the Leupold is the better buy. Great glass. I’d already own one if it was FFP.
