I remember as a kid, my dad would have an aneurism if gas went up by a penny. The melt down of big oil, government, and taxes was epic.

Gas is back up to 2.39 from 1.75 (Lowest in my area). Of course our gas tax in PA is something like 77.10 cents per gallon, looking to go up from there. That’s all thanks to our shitbag governor.

I worked at a full service station in the mid '80s and remember when we installed self serve pumps. People would use them and expect us to wash their windows, check tires, etc. I don't remember gas prices, but less than $1 a gallon. My Dad says when he was a young adult, fuel economy was not even a concern. They spent more on tires and tire repairs than gas.

    Twenty-three cents a gallon when I was a kiddo.

And I did the same as Belmont a few months ago, I had been buying groceries for myself and the extended family for about a month, but have been working from home since mid-March. Pre-COVID, I was spending about $200 a month on gasoline, and $300 on tolls.

So I bought 14 gallons of gas at 39 cents a gallon with the Kroger points - woot!

Its around $2.10 in Central NY and we are the land of TAXs on everything ! Hell I'm not complaining at this point,I remember when it was over $4 bucks a gallon years ago ! I'm "really" old,LOL as a kid I remember .19cents a gallon and Sunoco 260 which was well over 100 Octane was .29cents a gallon. When I was in Collage (72/73) I remember the Odd/Even days for buying gas and it was around .55cents ! The 1st time I ever saw $1.00 a gallon was in 79 after a buddy & I got out of the service and we were traveling around out West and saw that price outside of Yosemite National Park in CA !

My wife got it for $1.15 today at Harris Teeter, a $1 off. Otherwise still $2.15 around here.

Back in April when prices were absurdly low here in OK.

They are around $2.15-2.20 for premium right now (I have to run that)

I don't think we got that low south of Norman, OK, but I remember seeing those prices up north. Sitting at $1.99+ depending on where you get it.
