    12.5" barrel

So, thinking of doing a 12.5", my first of this length. I'm considering a "mini precision" type build with the appropriate optic to be debated later. Question is on the gas system for those who have used 12.5's, carbine or does anyone utilize a mid length? This would be initially on a pistol lower and maybe later an SBR'rd one. I was originally looking at a 11.5" but already have a BCM pistol. Obviously, a quality SS barrel, maybe a Bartlein? I threw around the idea of 6.5G or 6mm ARC but didn't want to get into another caliber right now.

There's no illusions of SHTF, end of the world use, etc, just a fun gun to enjoy like most of the others.

Google the Hodge 12.5” barrel optimized for M855A1/suppressor use.

Triarc and Noveske make 12.5's in mid length

So Clint, with match ammo(69/77 SMK/TMK), factory or hand loaded, what is a realistic accuracy expectation considering an accomplished precision shooter? Assuming a rested position, bipod and rear bag at 100 no account for wind errors.(no I threw it in the bag, forgot my bipod so I used a Cheerios box, etc, etc excuses)

By chance do you offer a heavy profile or SS options?

I'm not Clint, but his 16" MPR barrel using the same rifling gave me an average of .769" over five 5-shot groups. Ammo was 77gr SMKs over H322. It might have just been a great day for me, but I'm not an accomplished precision shooter and I still averaged 1.1" with other decent loads, such as 77gr TMKs over XBR.

Expectation is around MOA provided everything else is done right.

We do offer a heavier profile in 16".

Most people are asking for med-light profiles, which is what we did for these recent 11.5/12.5/14.0 barrels.

Look at Black River Tactical's 12.5" bbl. The gas system is optimized for that specific barrel length.

Edited to add: Looks like Clint beat me to it. Either way, I've been happy with his barrels and the polygonal rifling is a plus for velocity.

I would definitely look at V7 for that money. It'll be cheaper and it's definitely half MOA if you do your part.

I have had both SS Noveske and Larue barrels in the past and both were boringly accurate at 400. I almost always "head shot" on the steel at that distance. At 100 they both were MOA and sub when I did my part. I almost always shot Black Hills 68, 69, and 77. 500 was doable but 600 always seemed to give me fits. Of course everything was harder for me at after 600. I went a different direction and now my only SBR is a 12.5 a Kino but I've never shot it past 300.
