Again, to reiterate, the choice was made because of the OSS silencer. it has 3.5" over the barrel threading, and is direct thread so permanently attaching a MD was not an option. I just discovered that it was a decent option for shooting unsuppressed if I have to. The gun is run 99% of the time suppressed. I thought I was missing something.(and I didn't have to waste money permanently attaching a muzzle device) Nobody has articulated why a stock is better. The brace was incredibly sturdy and controllable, with a larger cheek weld than most stocks too.(individual state laws not withstanding)

The biggest advantage of a stock over a brace these days is cost. Braces have certainly evolved from my Shockwave.

Unique requirements have unique solutions, and I think running a direct thread supressor on a 14.5 barrel is a unique requirement. A brace makes more sense to me in your case than a SBR tax stamp.

I don't think you're missing anything. In fact, I think you've hit on something. With an over the barrel suppressor, you're getting a package no bigger than an 11.5" barrel, a boost in velocity, reduced gas to the face and a softer shooting more forgiving gas system. That's brilliant!

I guess I understand the gymnastics. For me, a welded/pinned 16" with a stock is GTG on a pencil AR.

I'm actually considering a similar build. Check out this video. It's a bit long, but the Irish guy is money!
