Filling in spare parts. Stainless pins for gas tube retaining pin?

I'm buying spare parts. I've always used the plain old roll pins that come with gas tubes/blocks. Anyone have an upgrade they recommend?

Coiled spring pin? Stainless spring pin? And where would you get these? A long time ago when I was paranoid about the pin falling out, I would secure it with safety wire.

BTW - anyone use coiled spring pins for bolt catch? Or ejector retaining pins? And how would these improve reliability?

I'm probably over thinking this, but since I'm buying spares to last forever I thought I'd ask.

    Thanks

Gunz was fanatical about not re-using roll pins. I, on the other hand, will use one until I lose it.

Yeah he was, I have it right in my notes..."Roll pins are a one time use item". I've used several because of missing pins in LPKs and cheap brittle ones people bring me to install. Anymore I won't even try to use a bolt catch pin unless I know the origin, I just break out my bag of 500 and flick the unknown one in the garbage.

Hard to believe that next week it will be one year since we lost him. R.I.P. buddy.

This. I bought a bunch of these various roll pins from MC, some mil-spec phosphate, some stainless. No reason to re-use a roll (spring) pin when you have a gazillion of them.

I believe there's a similar list somewhere for springs as well, but I don't know if it was Will's creation or not. Anyone?

I've bought stuff from KAK - at one time they had an agency armorer parts kit, but I cant find it now.

This doesn't roll out too bad price wise: https://www.kakindustry.com/ar15-lpk-spring-kit-10pack

Thanks for the ideas guys. This will be helpful. I'll probably just buy the above myself and hand out bags of them to my friends like party favors.

Any thoughts on coiled spring pins? I think Geissele? uses a coiled spring pin for the ejector retention pin.

I used to do the same thing, I've since decided to repent my evil ways.

When I'm done; I'll have multiple spares for every pin, spring, nut, bolt, receiver, buffer, gas tube, detent, extractor, ejector, hammer/trigger spring, receiver extension, gas block, etc. etc. so my rifles (and friendlies rifles) can be maintained no matter what happens. LOL

Today, I got an email from Geissele and they are selling complete Mil Spec bolts. I had a 35% off coupon and bought two to add to my collection of bolts and complete BCGs, along with SSA and SSA-E spring kits, trigger pins, an MRO mount, and some other stuff. I wanted to buy another rail, but their website is rather barren right now/

I just really don't like the way things are going in America and I consider this another step to self reliance and preparedness.
