Question Question re: Colt return to civilian sales and available models

An old friend in the Army shared his views that while 6920s would obviously come back into production and be available for sale again, other runs probably would not be.

    Questions for the group:

    A) will the 6720 lightweight barrel model return to retail, do you think?

    B) what model or models - if any - offered prior to the halt in civilian sales, do you suspect will not return to availability?

My Magic 8-Ball is out for maintenance.

Ask again when I get it back in a couple weeks. On second thought.......

I’d like the OEM models to make a comeback.

There was a small niche market for the 6720. Most who wanted a fixed front sight gun wanted the 6920 or the 6920 with the even heavier SOCOM barrel. I’d be surprised to see the 6720 return.

I can see the regular and MagPul furniture 6920’s come back. The 6920 patrol guns with the low profile gas block and some flavor of rail. Maybe even the 6920 Trooper.

They would be insane to not offer the 6960.

Perhaps it was a niche market, but I see options that actually fit within today’s market as:
    6960 CCU,
    6921 SOCOM pinned from factory,
    6720-OEM2 (one can hope)

If asking about parts, the barrels to the above rifles would be hot sellers, as would complete uppers. Then BCG.

I left off the obvious 6933, which might do better than a 6720-OEM2.

I would expect all that Colt will sell to the civilian market is whatever contract overrun stuff they have at the time.

They are adamant about not engaging the civilian market with any sort of branding, marketing, etc. Look how badly the 6960 was handled, which should've been their easiest seller.

If they wanted to give it one ounce of effort there could be $1200 6960s flying off the shelves at every brick and mortar gun store in the nation.

It's like the perfect average Joe or boomer AR. It's from Colt so it's kind of cowboy patriotic, but it has less scary lines than a FSB AR, plus it can carry any good 3-9x40 deer scope.

I don't know about that. A railed 6520 was long requested and was a common conversion before the 6720. The 6720 when offered in (2008?) sold well. I had one of the first, and several more since. As they crept into inventories the weight savings was immediately noticed and appreciated.

That said, 13-15" free float rails are the future. I'd buy 6960s over 6920s, with a (6760?) LW midlength preferred.

In 2008, the market was a bit different than it is now. People want a free floated 13”-15” rail.

While discussing what I’d like to see Colt offer, I’d love to see a 11.5” 6933 pistol.

I also agree that Colt put little effort into marketing the midlength 6960. That gun in an OEM configuration would be an interesting option as well.
