    Anyone else rocking 358 Socom?

This is one of those silly boutique rounds, but I fell into a screaming deal on the tromix bolt/barrel and reloading stuff last winter. So far I’ve just worked up a hunting load with 42gr AR-Comp under a 200gr Barnes TSX moving at 2500fps.

Hopefully it will get a Caribou next week.

Never even knew it existed, decided to look it up before asking if you had a typo.

Were you able to recover the bullet? Always interested in how they perform.

No I wasn’t, blew through the spine and out the rib cage (I was 150 yards and 100ish feet above this thing). Created a hell of a wound channel but my dumbass ruined some backstrap with that shot.

Apologies about bumping a several-month-old thread, but I've just taken the plunge and am waiting for Tony at Tromix to ship me one of his last two .358 barrel and bolts.

I've always had a hankering for a .35 cal, and my thought process lead me to the Yeti and the SOCOM. Ended up liking the more realiable / easier mag situation with the SOCOM and was a bit wary of the Yeti's pressures.

Looking forward to putting this together.

Did you ever put together a revolver bullet load for plinking or smaller game?

    Why a .358 over a .458 SOCOM?

No clear headed logic to it. As I mentioned, I've always wanted a .35 in something for no good reason other than being able to shoot heavy bullets for large game and load pistol bullets for plinking and light stuff.

Of course, that doesn't work to its fullest extent in an AR15 sized package vs a bolt gun, but a semi auto seems to make a lot of sense for what will be a hog gun most of the time.

I too took the plunge into the Socom pool but with the .358's bigger cousin, the .375. Kind of the same situation. I got a great deal on a very slightly used rifle, some loaded rounds, brass, and loading dies.
46.4 grains AR-Comp under a 200 gr Sierra flat point averaged 2435 fps. Flatter trajectory than a .458 but I assume less flat than a .358 and unbelievably accurate.
