The undecideds (or even those lukewarm to Biden) have to be a large enough number to actually float the idea of skipping a tradition of debating your opponent. The optics of creepy Joe sun-downing mid debate with Trump will either drive votes to Trump or have people tossing their hands up, saying "eff this" and skipping the vote altogether.
Ill tell you why- so the fvcking 5th column..aka..the media...can have something to fill timeslots and make it ALL about Trump, Trumps "lies", Trumps "racism"..Trumps blah blah blah. Biden could shit his pants onstage- and it would take up less coverage than Bill Clinton visiting Epstiens island. The ONLY reason they clamor for a debate is to make the focus on TRUMP.

At this point, a debate can only hurt Biden, and the establishment knows it.

You have committed groups on each side who will vote for their candidate no matter what, if only to try and prevent the other side from winning. They were going to vote for for their team regardless of who was running, so let's discount them for now.

Scattered in the middle, you've got people who vote for a variety of reasons between issues they care about to who they think is the better looking candidate. They may think Trump is a bullish loudmouth who doesn't reflect the office well, but they would also be extremely put off by a senile old man who can't think straight or form a sentence. While this group may not vote for Trump to keep Biden out, they would certainly be swayed to not vote at all. Other portions of this group also see what's going on in the Dem-run cities and states and feel disgusted by it. Putting Biden on stage and having him come across as incompetent is certainly not confidence instilling, and they may very well switch their vote to Trump's "law and order" rhetoric.

The left is hoping and dreaming that they can ride off of a combination of anti-Trumpism, Biden's reputation and track record (which is easily attacked given his long tenure in DC), and his prior debate performances in the primaries. I don't think it's a winning strategy outside of blue strongholds.

IMO, they know they don't have an Obama-like candidate who is a good speaker but has enough of a "blank slate" background that voters can ascribe whatever values they want to him. Biden has a very public history, and they know that he'll get attacked for it as soon as he gets the nomination. The only real way he can fight back is via debate, which he's not capable of doing, so they're going to gamble.

I thought on this a bit- know what? I believe 100% THAT would be a guaranteed win for Trump, I really do.
BUT- IF they won, yoni is 100% right.
