Yep. Agreed. Call me a purist, I can’t get over the funky serial prefix. And I don’t like the change to “SigSauer Ag”. It’s an attempt to co-brand the turd burgled US guns and the ultra high quality Swiss guns.

Granted, I’m approaching this from the ivory tower of owning essentially all the Swiss 55x I care to own, short of 2-3 specific items. If I were approaching this from scratch, I would gladly buy the JDI imports.

In a binary world I would probably lean towards the HK over the 55X. While both are reliable platforms, I feel the Hk is a little more practical for modern optics/lasers. While I do like the 55x mags, they are not something that I am interested in stocking. Practically speaking your not going to see a difference with most ammo. The Hk can be flexed into a DMR role more effectively than the 55x. While I feel that the 55x triggers is probably one of the best milspec triggers made, it is hot garbage compared to say a geiselle.

If we are talking about shooting exclusively with iron sights, than I would take the 55x all day.

With all this being said, I think it all boils down to if the user is more comfortable with a really nice AK or a fairly awkward AR. Both are pigs with limited factory support (Spare parts are however fairly available on the secondary market for both).

Pretty much what it boils down to. If you're using one or the other for a range toy, they'd be fine. But if you're using one for practical application, then the H&K just for the fact that you can use commonly available STANAG mags.

Had a couple Sigs. Still have the MR556.

Sigs are great if you want the absolute best Kalashnikov ever made.

Ultimately I realized I just wanted a fancy AR with AR-18 guts.

They are like Rolex watches. Great if you really like Rolexes but I’m happy with a Casio.

I will say the accuracy is gonna be on the HK’s side. But if you wanted a super short Krinkov analogue then you seriously cannot beat the Sig. I’m just too set in my ways and lazy.

If I'm running a basic carbine without 20 lbs of crap on the front rail, a stock 551 w/ B&T rail and some kind of basic optics really is hard to beat. Along with my MP5, it is one of my favorite firearms to shoot simply for the pleasure of shooting.

I would go with the SIG (Switzerland) product, if the choice is between the SIG and HK. Without spending boo-coo money on a real complete HK416 platform, it makes little sense. How much will a used 416 upper cost on top of a MR 556 lower. I do not see the point of paying all that money for a real 416 - which includes the real HK-416D semi lower. I do not want to mix and match uppers and lowers. I can buy a real non-neutered SIG 55X from Switzerland and it does not consist of a pile of eclectic parts in the case of a used 416 upper and MR lower.

What is the point of choosing any hi-end product, if you are asking for the best modern platform. bang for your buck ! It is more efficient to buy a Colt SOCOM AR rifle, spare factory parts, ammo, and real 'expensive' accessories.
