Recommended Charities with mil/LE focus

I'm looking at putting together a charity event with a partner - via the museum is the plan - to raise awareness and $ for mil/LE suicide awareness focus. When is unclear due to current status, but what charities have a good rep among that community and known for getting a high % of the $ where it belongs? I did an event some years back and the $ went to WW and (1) they did jack all to help support the event and (2) since lost faith in their focus and ethics and (3) they're anti gun, so fail x 3.

I would consider contacting Black Rifle Coffee or a guy like Andy Stumpf who can put you into contact with a group like you're looking for in your area. Theres a huge sea of charity organizations now and I would trust their input on who's actually pounding the pavement helping people with the money right now.

And yes WWF sucks. They did good work at first but it turned into a brand rather than a charity. I got medevac'd out of Baghdad in 2004 and they were going around Landstuhl in Germany giving out backpacks with a change of clothes, toiletries, and a calling card. Just the change of clothes was a huge morale boost for me because I'd been in the same partial DCU uniform for almost 2 weeks as the day I went down barely able to breathe (not combat- sudden fast/hard hitting pneumonia from the nasty ****ing air with them burning huge mounds of trash on every block in the city). Once they got big enough through good natured donations they became a celebrity brand with 'professional charity managers' that turned it into another money sink operation.

Is DAV an option? I know there's one the guys at BCM support too, unsure but think it's called Warrior's Heart or something similar.

I came here to say DAV too. I don’t know enough to say they are active in preventing suicide per se, but they no doubt serve veterans in my AO. Their vans are a serious link for older vets to get access to VA care. I see them all the time at the VA hospitals. No BS there.

They also get nearly all our donated goods at their local thrift store. Decidedly low rent store - they are not Wounded Warrior’ing anything.

They are a specific suicide prevention group for First Responders / Emergency Services personnel and their families.

My love of coffee makes that appealing, but why them? Is that a focus of theirs? I think they'd make an excellent sponsor at least.

Backstoppers is a big one in missouri. Husband/wife team created it and it benefits law/fire/ems and have a long standing reputation of being a true not for profit organization.

I just mean they'd be able to direct you to people who are actually using the money if not participating themselves depending on what you have in mind. Its at least worth shooting over an email and seeing what happens.

Also, since you're in FL, that's where a ton of SOF guys are at. The dudes at Ones Ready podcast are more on the Air Force side and an email their way wouldn't hurt, either.
