Well, well, well. After posting today I checked my email this afternoon and lo and behold my LGS has a SP5 in stock. I had told the guy that I was really looking for a PDW but if a regular came in I did take that too. Just went and filled out the paperwork, background checks are taking a few days here.
Still in line for a PDW. They seem extremely rare. Thank God I haven’t been able to spend money on guns or ammo in the past year, and I’ve been eating leftovers for lunch since I can’t really go out easily.

It's that simple.
Does anyone have hands on experience with the PTR offerings?
I got in on the second batch of MKE imports where I bought one that looked like a SP-89 and one that looked like a HK-94 pistol. Had to install paddle mags on both and cut / crown and install a 3 lug on the P94 model.
Had the work done by S&H Arms so the barrel is rifled all the way through the 3 lug just like a factory HK gun. Also swapped out the castle rear sights for full size MP5 diopters. Both have been extremely reliable and they are my hard use SBRs so that I'm not banging the crap out of my presamples.
I was hoping to jump on the POFs because they were like $1000 at the time but missed the boat. Would have been a no brainer purchase and weak links like cocking handles (known to break on POFs) could easily been swapped out for factory HK parts.
Also grabbed a MKE 43P (basically a 33k) before they stopped importing them. Only gripe was cocking tube cap rattled but I replaced it with a bayo lug which screws in place and looks better anyway. Still need to SBR that one and that will give me three "bang around" MKE's.

Only with the first 91 offering back when they were JLD. Had problems with every single one of them. Wasn't impressed. I have been told they have the tooling from FMP but didn't matter since they deviated from the factory specs on the 91. I really want to try the military profile barrel but not gonna risk buying one.
Was told by JLD they also have the tooling for the 33 but so far they haven't offered anything in 5.56 last I checked. MP5 clones will be a crapshoot, especially if they don't have the tooling from a HK contract factory.

I have a PTR-9K, their MP-5K version. It was a result of over enthusiastic session on Gunbroker, where I thought I might have paid a bit too close to MSRP. There was no inkling of HK SP5 at that point. My first personally owned Clone but some experience with department issue full autos in the distant past,15-20 years back.
The PTR works fine for me, suppressed or unsuppressed. Sewing machine reliability with HK and KCI mags and very good even with the sole ETS mag I have tried after a slight break in period. Build quality is fine too - tight pins that need some light taps to seat, but nothing unmanageable in the first 1000 rounds.
My one recommendation is to skip the Kurz and get the standard length. The balance and shooting posture is just off when that short. I heard others recommend that and I did not heed...
