Agreed. .308 is best for outside shooting or rural areas.

well lets be honest, I will likely NEVER use this gun to shoot through laminated auto glass...

Now double pain windows in my house...maybe, but auto glass, not likely.

And if engaging mobs of zombies over penetration might not be a bad thing, just sayin'...

Depending on your objectives as to range of use and "hardness" of target, a lighter bullet has some advantages.
I load a 110gr Barnes to about 3000fps, and a 125gr Nosler Baltip/Accubond to about 2800 fps and out to 300 yards both still have energy at 1200 ft-lbs and very reasonable trajectory. Neither of these loads is particularly hot. The principal advantage to these is less recoil, faster follow up.

I just sourced some A2520, primarily for 5.56 77 OTM, but might start loading 308. My son's 8mm had a SD of 4 with TAC. I never saw low SD like that with small cased 5.56, even with our scale resolution of .02 grn.

I reload and hunt/target shoot with the Hornady 165g SST. It works well for both.

I have a bunch of the 150gr SSTs to reload, and I'm hopeful/optimistic, but Hornady's loaded ammo with the SST hasn't been very accurate for me...

Kinda necro, but what are the collective thoughts on Federal 308 150 gr soft points. I'd try Speer GDSPs but can't find any.

    The regular "power shok" kind?

I mean I got some for my LMT. It was what i could find at the time along with some Interlocks. Groups about the same for me. I'm sure it will be good enough for social purposes out of an 16" carbine, anyway.
