Although a cute idea at first. It's completely contradicts any logical thought.
The shitty ergo/sites/accuracy of an AK in a caliber you could get an AR that's monumentally superior in the same critical categories??? Friggin dumb.

Yeah, they really need to return to 5.45x39 and refine from there.
That more than anything has made most commie bloc guns irrelevant. We could overlook a multitude of sins when they cost half or sometimes even a third as much as an AR. But the days of a Polytech Legend vs. a SP1 are long gone.
The lore of never fails (AK) vs. fails every time (Vietnam AR) is very much over. And with price being equal, and in some cases with the AK actually costing more, it's easy to figure out which is superior.

I like the Kalashnikov in 5.56.
AKs that shoot poorly only do so because sloppily made cold hammer forged barrels suck. Put a nice barrel in and they shoot as well as anything.
The mags lock in with more certainty than something fed by AR15 mags, but it's easier to botch the magazine insertion.
The AK's low sights and resultant tight cheek weld make sight alignment very fast and repeatable.
Malfunction clearance is usually simple and fast because of the lack of accessible tight spots for brass or cartridges to get stuck in behind the chamber. I always found malfunctions very fast to clear, and always by racking the bolt handle with ejection port down.
The AK's fixed ejector and generous reciprocating length of the carrier make it less sensitive to carrier velocity variation. The operating window is larger on the fast end, making it more tolerant of being overgassed. It's still better at this than most modern rifles, which mostly feature more restricted reciprocating length similar or identical to an AR15's.
A safety that could be actuated without breaking grip, A magwell to guide mag insertion, elimination of the opening in the receiver behind the bolt handle, a BHO device ala Vepr 12, a solid 1913 rail mounted permanently in alignment with the barrel, and reduction of overall weight, with emphasis on getting it off the front end, would get the AK well up to speed. Adjustable gas, higher quality barrels, and the ability to change barrels without needing a machine shop would be nice.
I may have to pick up a Robinson Armament XCR L one day.
Me too. I have several and they all run great. The only downside is that unlike 7.62x39 and 5.45x39, there is no standard magazine that works in all 5.56x45 AK's.
I'll add that the quality of the ammo shot in most AK's is below that of the ammo shot in most AR15's. Shoot equality quality ammo and the accuracy difference is less.AKs that shoot poorly only do so because sloppily made cold hammer forged barrels suck. Put a nice barrel in and they shoot as well as anything.
I have an SBR in 7.62x39 on order right now.I may have to pick up a Robinson Armament XCR L one day.
