The plates that Botach sells (that MR. Guns and Gear reviewed and shot at) are nice and for the price ($99) are worth a try. Not Lvl 4 rated (NIJ) but built to the same specs. Unsure if Botach still has them.

MrGunsnGear did a review on the LA Police Gear Level III and IV plates and they performed well.

They have level III in stock.

I have 2 sets of Hesco 4401s in Mayflower APCs. They are single curve but fit and wear comfortably on me for hours. Level IV rated, .93” thick.

I personally wouldn’t go above .6” thick, regardless of weight.

Because an inch in thickness feels ridiculously cumbersome. I bought side plates that were an inch thick when my front and rear were .6” and immediately sold them. The extra .4” doesn’t sound like much but it is just about doubling the thickness and felt like it was even more than that.

I can see how 1"+ would make a difference on the sides for sure, you'd feel that with your arms all the time. But is it that noticeable in the front and back? Unless you're rolling around on the ground, it seems like you wouldn't notice it much, but I could be wrong. I can shell out for the thinner U210s, but I was hoping for the M80 protection the 3810s offer.

FYI, reports are the Socialist Rifle Club is now advising members(Antifa/BLM/Revcom) to buy armor and stay away from steel plates because of spalling. I’m betting we’ll see even more of a run on plates now.

You can definitely feel it up front and on the back, particularly if you try for more coverage. It can make shouldering the gun a bit more difficult, reduce mobility a bit, and is just more uncomfortable. There are many folks that have stated that they'd rather have thin plates that are heavier than thick plates that are lighter.

Agree, this feeling drove me to go with U210 myself.
