Colt Sp1 experts, see number help

So, I helped a customer clean up his SP1 and we are trying to find the year of manufacture. I looked on Colt's site and get 1963, data does not support it. Checked other sites and the serial number just doesn't match up to the years. I'm wondering if they used different numbers on the carbines?

The upper all appears stock, no FA, However, the BC has the notches for the pawl. Unshrouded SA BC. Bird cage FH with lock washer, of course A1 upper
Lower is a slab side with trapdoor stock, old style, definitely not an A2. From pivot is large but has a single pin with detent on the pin.

    ser num SP189161

I appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I believe that serial number indicates early 80s production.

That serial number coming back to me as originally a Carbine from 1983-1984 period? The front takedown pin with the detent ball in the pin is a late production thing. Sounds like it has a Type E rear stock. Can you post a picture of the rollmarks?

I started thinking that may be the case. Thanks for checking and confirming off of this

I have a 1977 SP1 Sporter with a serial number of SP77XXX. I also have a 1981 SP1 Carbine that is numbered SP149XXX. Serial number SP189161 is an early-1980s production. As was mentioned, likely 1983-84. It also appears that this may be a franken-build as the pivot pin is not correct for a SP1 Sporter or Carbine.

Thanks for the help on this. I told him if he truly wanted to know he would need to contact Colt.

ALL SP1 serial numbers start with SP, not SP1
If you see a number 1 there, it belongs to the serial number
