How does one cover an engraving?

I have an AK sbr which the previous owner had "HAIL VICTORY" engraved on the right side of the receiver. Is there anyway to get rid of it aside from grinding? I'd rather not have that done.

Personally, I would try sandblasting the affected area, filling in the engraving with epoxy, sanding flat and refinishing.

You'd have to use a spray-on finish like Cerakote after filling it in with epoxy or JB weld, as something like parkerizing won't work on the epoxy. Or, just use some Super Blue to darken it so it's not so visible and live with it.

You have a couple of permanent options available. If you could find a talented ,competent welder they can just hit it with a light bead and then grind and file it back to flat. The heat generated should not have any effect on warping the receiver since they would just be adding the bead to the surface. When all said and done the area is going to have to be refinished. The key is finding someone good at welding. High end car restoration shops are a good place to start asking about metalsmiths since they make their living working on precision pieces. Obviously you are investing some time and money in it this way but it’s a permanent fix to the problem. You can also have the text machined out in that you could have just the slightest amount of surface metal removed on a mill leaving you with a slight almost stamped indentation which could then be blued. Personally, I would start by trying to hide it with oxy blue, perma blue pick one to see how that works first before the machining option and finally the welding option. Good luck with this and let us know what you went with.

There are no inexpensive options if you want to do it right. You could always cold blue the engraving to see how much it bothers you as it would be less noticeable. Did the previous owner disclose his "custom work"? Is it a factory SBR on a Form 4, factory rifle SBR'd on a Form 1 or a kit build that was SBR'd on a Form 1?
