    New Prices for Stripped Receivers???

I'm not big on the whole panic thing. Yes, I think we'll probably see some kind of ban in the next year or so, but not tomorrow or next week or Jan 21st for that matter. Anyway, I decided that I wanted another AR stripped receiver to do yet another SBR. Not because of the election, but because the bug has really bit me. Anyway, ALL the shops in town are sold out of stripped lowers! Not a single stripped lower to be had. Now, retail prices ain't all the great around here to begin with. I got my CMMG lower for about $125 and my RRA lower for $140. The RRA was bit on the high side I thought. BUT, now that everyone is in a feeding frenzy can I expect these stripped lowers to go for $200..$250...more? One of the shops I visted to today had a Sig 556 Pistol for $2150, a FN FS2000 for $2695 and a S&W AR w/ Troy Rail and rear Troy Flip Sight for $1575 . Geez, gouge-o-rama. Those prices are all way above what you'd normally see. So, are stripped lowers going that way too?

What is wrong with everyone?! Damn, that's dumb. Th weird thing is I saw a post on another board by a guy who said he didn't mind paying $300 plus for his stripped lower because it supported his local gunshop. ???? So, the local business gouges you and you support that? Weird. If it were a gas station or a supermarket gouging him, he'd been super-pist.

Prices right now are being driven by supply. Supply is being driven by panic and fear.
I seem to remember someone on this forum posting some very sage advise prior to the elections. Get what you would buy anyway, just sooner. Or something like that.

Yeah, is that sage advice or just driving the panic?

I went to a three-day gunshow that started on Friday the 21st. I got inside about 10 minutes after the doors opened. The biggest dealer at the show had like ten AR stripped lowers.........four pistol and six rifle. They were all gone in an hour.

I bought a AR rifle lower off the guy.......a Smith & Wesson for $170. Nice looking receiver....well made.

All the other tables were out of stripped lowers within an hour or so.

The advise was posted back in June/July, IMO too early to drive the panic. I think the "panic" set in around November 5th after everyone woke up from the love fest and realized they'd elected the "Big O".

Today I picked up a Spike's lower at the Orlando show for $179. I didn't expect to see anything given the conditions and the fact that it was the second day of the show. But hey, I had an hour to kill before my CCL class so I went in to see what was left. I couldn't believe that Spike's had anything left, let alone stripped lowers, and being a cheap bastard I hesitated because I am sure there are better deals for those willing to wait. But I was there, they had about a dozen left, I had the cash, so I figured it was meant to be and I bought one. Time will tell whether I end up happy that I bought one, regretful that I did not buy two, or slightly remorseful that I paid a few dollars too much.

I hate these high prices, too. But, panic buyers who pay at these prices deserve exactly what they get. Have no sympathy.
