I seem to remember someone on this forum posting some very sage advise prior to the elections. Get what you would buy anyway, just sooner. Or something like that.

This is a very important point. Manufacturers are NOT shipping stripped lowers. They are concentrating on COMPLETE weapons. When a dealer is used to having 50 lowers in stock and then all of the sudden is told he cannot have any more, the prices are ALWAYS going to go up. This is NOT price gouging.

You mean it's driven by demand. Supply is effectively inelastic since the manufacturers are not responding to the higher prices by producing more output. Price is then going to be set by demand.

Depends on how you look at it. The "supply" is the number available at any given time, be it how many are being produced or how many are left on the dealers shelf. Short supply numbers result in higher pricing typically. Short supply numbers in this case are a direct result of fear driven demand.
Supply is very "elastic" since a manufacturer could step up production or conversely cease production, and directly effect an otherwise relatively stable market. /OPEC 101
Regardless of the semantics, it's a very crazy situation right now. Those who six months ago could have cared less about owning an AR (or maybe they would get one "eventually"), are jumping into the market fearful of the near future.

nobody noticed when everyone else was buying lowers by the bushel over the last summer?

did i buy everything i wanted before the election? no. i didn't. i just want too much crap for that.

however, i certainly made sure i had as many $100 lowers as i needed before November rolled by.

now is a bad time to buy. either go back in time and buy lowers when you should have, or wait for a while and hope things settle down in a few months.
