And back in March the market was saturated.

There's two ways to look at this.

    1) either diversify and have a bunch of everything or....
    2) put all that money into one or two calibers. (Usually 9/556). But then you have to be able to not give a shit about anything else. No "wants"

Not quite, there is a path between. If you set a "primary and alternate" each for Pistol and Rifle that gives you some of the benefits of each--bonus if you can go between Primary and Alternate with something simple like barrel-and-mag swap. I wouldn't buy a Creedmoor upper just to use the stuff the LGS has simply because once it's gone those guys are gonna be hurting even more than we are since the plants'll go three shifts on the common calibers first, with particular emphasis on the Mil and LE sectors, and stay that way.

We're never gonna see 2017 prices again no matter what demand may do, if the industry has to in order to keep prices up they'll do "contrived shortages" and "manufactured scarcities" like De Beers does with diamonds.

Firefly that's an interesting statement. Just curious what made your interest in guns decrease? Now seems like the most likely time in my lifetime to need them (47). I have had times when life didn't allow me to shoot or train as much as I want but my interest never decreased. Thanks

If memory serves, it was "gun people" that pushed him away. Every subculture has its toxic cliques, and we're no exception--I left scale modeling in my past for similar reasons, combined with unsteady hands no longer letting me have the craftsmanship I once did.

To answer you fairly and true, it’s a number of factors:

    1. Gun people. Seriously, go to Barfcom on any given day. Those are the people they are referring to when saying guns are dick sublimation. Their whole lives revolve around having guns. Like a fat kid with the most GI Joes or something. And if you say anything that could be moderately construed as not being the most Republican Republican they declare you a Communist. And it’s not just losers on a website. It’s in real life. I try to avoid normies and citizens on my personal time but the sperglords and their making a big deal over guns is lame. I miss when it was still sorta underground or not that over-involved.

    2. Time. I don’t have the time I did in my early 20s and even then I shoot an agency weapon and state ammo more than anything. I don’t get to enjoy my personal pile like I did. In my 20s I would take an impromptu trip to DNR land to go shoot my Colt and FN FAL. Ammo was cheap and I was carefree. Now I have to plan around it and if I have been shooting someone else’s guns and ammo; I kinda can’t be arsed to use my free time just to do more shooting. I’m middle aged now. I’ve done enough entries that it is a pain in the ass job. If I gotta burn someone down; it’s likely going to be within room or hallway distance.

    3. The Black Pill of Middle Age. My interests just changed. I’m not hip anymore. I don’t get gee wow like I used to. I played Gun Pokemon and realized that I was happier with what I was used to. Like someone else, I would buy some fancy gun. Fart with it. Not bother with it. Take it out and make pew pew noises in the mirror with it. Then not bother with it. Then sell it because I preferred my AR. When I was young, I started out with a Colt, a Bushmaster, a FAL, and a Glock and was happy. I like my ARs. With little deviation. I have some toys (old Namgats, Garand, etc) but my stuff is super streamlined. I debate getting another FAL just because I liked it in the day. But I am just into my ARs. I also would rather enjoy my free time. Especially now that weather is cooler. I am happier some days just listening to my records or something than caring about guns. I also hate the inevitable political hot topic of guns. Most people at first sniff don’t think I have guns and I enjoy letting them think that.

But that said, I am still a shooter. I still try to keep in shape on it. But as for really caring about the latest mousetrap? No. No I just don’t.

Honestly I could live my last 20 years (I hope) out on this godless space rock with just my Colt and 1911 and probably not feel bad about it nor at a deficit.

That’s just me. At some point I just want an RV to go live in the desert where nobody can find or bother me.

We don't have a gun problem. We have an apposing political, ideological problems. Guns alone aren't going to solve it. The sad part is that most people are so much better off than previous generations and so they have very little of importance to occupy themselves mentally, physically, and consciously so they have created problems of injustice, poverty, race, division, hate, etc. where there isn't actually even a problem. They just feel like they need a cause and or a purpose. You might say its a spiritual problem.

Firefly's outlook on gun ownership is not uncommon - it mirrors a lot of America. When you examine the SCOTUS discussion, gun people want a nominee who probably owns AR's and shoots them regularly. The average citizen doesn't even connect with that kind of thinking.

In my case, I am a shooter but collector as well, and enjoy the mechanical aspects of different weapons. But I am also thinking of future times in the US where we may need these weapons for protecting ourselves and maybe taking back the Country. I am also thinking of future generations. I have two sons and a daughter (the latter is still at home). My eldest son and his wife have given us four grandkids (3 girls and a boy). I want them to have something in a future when guns may be unobtainium. The same for my 21 year old son when he gets married and my teenage daughter. Guns will be part of the legacy of this ranch for the next generations.

Thanks for the thorough answer. I can relate to a lot of that. I don't have the latest or greatest on much of anything. Also at 47 way past the cool stage for anything. I find shooting much like going to the gym to be a stress reducer. But mostly I think of my guns as tools and just have them for protection and hunting. I don't have any collector type guns but do like the idea of passing down what I have to my kids when buying new may be impossible in 30 years. Take care.. and I like your RV in the desert idea (just don't recommend 29 Palms or Yuma Arizona as having been stationed there they kind of suck)
