Offset MRDS on optic: Am I doing this right...

Finally got around to mounting these.

Leupold 3-9x in DD mount with Insight SQFS offset from the primary optic itself, versus the receiver/handguard. Seems to transition well.

I have a DD 1 o’clock mount ready to go, but decided to try this first. It seems like a fairly decent solution and avoided my mounting the MRDS to the handguard or back right in front of my eye. Also, if I mount the scope, the backup goes with it.

    Used? No, I just mounted.

Any concerns with this setup? Anyone else do this?

Is that at the same bore distance as the scope?

Any orientation will work, but I prefer mine oriented like monty in the 2nd post has it. I prefer the traditional horizontal vs vertical window.

If you mount it any way other than illustrated in this picture it will be a bitch to zero and never shoot to the point of aim at any range other than the distance it is zeroed at.

Came a little late and didn't see photo/illustrations, but there are simple solutions to both points.

That only happens if you use it "wrong". With OP's setup, he would first rotate the gun until the dot is directly above bore, then zero the RDS with the gun in that orientation. Because that's how the gun should normally be fired at. As long as you keep the dot directly above bore, the ballistic will work exactly the same way as any traditional optic setup. Aka the bullets will hit exactly how everyone expects them to hit, without any funny business regardless of distance.

To zero, position the gun as stated in #1, and then simply rotate the TARGET so it's orientation matches the MRDS. Then zero as usual.

Our site is currently down (targeted ransomware attack) so I can't direct-link photos, but here is an IG post utilizing the same concept, except we matched the sight-height over bore for you already and the optic is exactly at 90 degrees when used (so it zeros super easy):

It was your illustration I used in my post, and it's invisible now because as noted your site is down. I saved a copy; mind if I upload and link it?

Just did some estimations, tough to get it exact. But, it seems like the MRDS is probably 1/8” low right now. Should be able to rotate it up a bit.

Thanks for the reminder on that. I asked because something was bugging me but couldn’t remember what it was. First time doing any sort of offset mount besides using the DD 1 O’clock mount on an M&P15-22 that I haven’t actually gotten to the range yet.
