    SCOTUS Replacement

Just discussing the potential replacements for RBG, not to discuss her in particular. Let's not get off track and get this one locked too, please.

Democrats are losing their minds over the possibility of hearings and a vote. McConnell says he's going to drive it forward, but the question remains on whether or not he has the votes to push it through a full Senate vote.

Trump says it's probably going to be a woman nominated and I see Amy Coney Barret being tossed around a lot. Like Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, she'd likely be on the bench for a long time if confirmed. If I were her, I'd hope I never made any offhand remarks in my high school yearbook...

I'm also seeing Barbara Lagoa from Florida being mentioned. It's an election year and she's a Cuban American which could have an impact on that voting block.

A somewhat decent breakdown of both from the Daily Mail along with the normal dartboard list of others "under consideration":

Let's give this topic another try, but this is the only warning for the thread or any potentially offending members. If you aren't capable of civil, dignified discourse don't participate. Please represent the M4C community well. Remember, it's just another political/social issues discussion on the internet.

I think the biggest argument against a nomination is the Merrick Garland nomination from 2016 that McConnell refused to hear. Nothing says the President can't (or shouldn't) nominate someone. That's expressly outlined in the Constitution and Trump should nominate someone. Again, whether Mitch has the votes in the Senate needed to push forward is the question.

I think the paradigm has changed sufficiently with the Kavanaugh nomination and the dirty underhanded tactics used during his hearings to push this one through prior to November 3rd. One can be a Never Trumper until they die, but if certain GOP Senators block this nomination and by some chance Biden wins and the Senate turns blue, they will have screwed everyone just for one last poke in Trump's eye.

If the GOP Does t get their shit together and confirm whomever Trump nominates, it would be disasterous.

That being said, the Democrats have already come out saying they don’t care and will win this one by any means in the long run by expanding SCOTUS the next time they get the chance.

If the GOP and everyone out there doesn’t see where we are headed- well, heads need to be removed from sand- the Democrats are vile, they will do anything and everything to kill this Republic, o matter how long it takes them and regardless of who or what needs sacrificed.

There is no winning by giving things up. There is no winning by appeasement of the other side and there will be no winning without Cutting throats in the near future. The R’s need to start playing the game, not by the rules like they have been, but by how the game is being played by the D’s.

The Dems wanted to ram there nominee through and got stopped. Don’t for a moment think that they wouldn’t have done it if they could have.

I don’t care about the optics of this. We need to win and gain ground any last way we can !!!

The gloves need to be taken off already folks!

We interrupt this programme to bring you an important news bulletin: the suspect in the Happy Times All-Girl Glee Club slaying has fled the scene and has managed to elude the police. He is armed and dangerous, and has been spotted in the West Side area, armed with a meat cleaver in one hand and his genitals in the other...

The Dems telegraph every single thing they do. They’re telling us they’ll expand the Court, you can guarantee that’s what they’ll do as soon as opportunity presents.

They say they’ll burn down the country to keep Trump from installing another Justice, that’s what they’re doing.

The GOP needs to get off the stick and realize this is a fight for the very existence and soul of our country and start acting like. Romney, Collins and Murkowski need to be gone from the political scene and so far from office they can’t even remember being in it. All of these damn squishes and never-Trumpers need to be gone.

It’s not about Trump, it’s about freedom, liberty and life of our country.

Screw discord. It's time. Don't walk this through, RUN this through. That is what they would do. Get it?

Schumer will do whatever he wants to do ANYWAY if the American public is dumb enough to give him the Senate. Stacking the SCOTUS and getting rid of the filibuster have always been on Chuck's agenda. With his gun grabbing Manchurian Candidate Mark Kelly, they will bring down the 2nd Amendment. Mark Kelly will be POTUS in less than 10 years if he wins the AZ Senate seat... You heard it here first.

This one is for all of the marbles. The next three months will decide the next 30-40 year course of the USA. Do we stay a Constitutional Republic, or become a Socialist group think festival like the EU?

Different game, though, at that time WH and Senate were opposite parties and the Senate GOP had flipped nine seats in '14 just TO roadblock Obama. By contrast, THIS moment is the ONLY reason R's kept a Senate majority in '18.

No mater how "fair" (language by Murkowski and Collins) republicans want to play, democrats are not going to reciprocate. Given the opportunity democrats will pack the SC as well as flush the Senate filibuster rule for everything else.

THAT is the key take away. It is not at all uncommon for this to happen when The Senate and POTUS are the SAME Party.

Only ONE person is to blame here for the (D)s. RBG should have retired under BHO. She did not. Out of respect, I shall say no more. R.I.P..
