Best lightweight barrel to convert to MRP?

I have a LMT MRP at the moment and while I absolutely love it, I do find it a bit heavy. Would I save much weight switching to a lighter weight barrel? I'm curious what makes for example the SR-15 upper so much lighter then the MRP (I haven't held the SR-15, this is just from reading online)?

If there are weight savings to be had (how much are we talking), what are some recommendations for a 14.5 or 16" (and cut to 14.7") barrel? I don't do any bench shooting besides to sight it in, don't really see myself shooting past 300 yards.

    Thanks!

I was also thinking about contouring my 14.5" MRP barrel, might be cheaper.. anyone have any luck shaving off some weight from the MRP barrels by going with a lightweight contour?

Trident, thats not a bad idea at all.

What's the LMT MRP barrels considered? mid weight? The more I think about it the more I'm tempted to have ADCO contour my 16" Barrel. Would only set me back $110 compared to ~$240ish going with the DD (assuming I sold my current barrel).

Is it a bad idea to contour an already used barrel? Curious if I'd see any difference compared to a DD LW barrel.

I spoke with Marvin about reprofiling my 14.5" LMT MRP barrel to 0.625" (LW profile). The MRP barrels are 0.750". Here is the factory LMT MRP barrel with a diameter gauge

Here is my SR15 barrel, 0.625" (LW profile)

Here is the current weight of my 14.5" LMT MRP barrel w/ A2 FH

I'm having Marvin shape my MRP barrel similar to that of my SR15. This is not to scale, but it gives you an idea of what the finished product should look like. I'll post on how much weight gets shaved off when I get my barrel back from Marvin.

Oniak, thanks so much for that. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you get the work done (do you know when that will be?). Also, what does Marvin charge for the contouring?

    Thanks!

I plan on sending it off to him in about a week. I am also having him permanently attach a Battlecomp 1.5 to the barrel. The contouring, reparking, Battlecomp pinning, and return shipping will be $195. Not sure what each procedure by itself costs. Adco might charge a little less. But, by sending it to Marvin, I know it is going to be Marvin working on it.

What are peoples thoughts on ADCO vs Marvin?

Is it worth the extra money/wait to go with Marvin when it comes to something like contouring the barrel?
