    M14 smith recommendations?

I just picked up a Rock Ola M14 and a Sparrowhawk kit for a faux selector block and connector arm to make it look USGI but don't have the machining / Dremel skills to install it- can anyone recommend a good M14 gunsmith to do it right? I emailed Ted Brown but got no response.

No offense intended but I think any good M14 smith would consider installing a faux selector a waste of time. What I mean is that M14 smithing is labor intensive if done right and any good smith will likely have plenty of work to keep busy. I would think a regular local gunsmith could fit that kit for you and likely a lot cheaper.

No offense taken- someone else recommended Ted Brown as he had installed theirs, I figured for someone that worked on M14's it would be easy work and something they're familiar with. While installation isn't complicated technically there's no YouTube videos on it and a few reported that it took hours to get it done correctly (and ruined a stock or two). I just want it done right, so I'd try SME's first if I can.

My buddy is a gunsmith. Not Ted Brown or at that level with M14's but he has installed a couple of those faux selectors for me. It doesn't take Ted Brown's level of M14 expertise to do it, just knowledge of the weapon and careful, methodical work.

My buddy believes in the old saying "Measure twice, cut once". He is quite familiar with the M14 platform. He will install the faux selector and then try to put the action in. Then he carefully sands/Dremels/files the area that is blocking the full assembly the weapon. Tries it again. Then again. Eventually it goes together and then he looks for contact with the op-rod while in battery. Once that is done the job is finished. Just don't go hog-wild with any fitting action to save time.

Haven't used him for M14 work, but his AR work is top-notch.
