Tom McC to clarify it was not all the way out, i would put it where it is supposed to go work the slide and it would move down towards the bottom of the recoil lug close to an eighth in or so. i was afraid it would come all the way loose and damage something. i never thought it would be a common enough issue to be able to google it but it was and according to glock very common.
Its not supposed to stay in the semi circle cutout. It goes there for re assembly and when the slide cycles, it drops to the next notch. Your gun is fine. Just shoot it.
Yes, the recoil rod doesn’t even touch that spot when the slide is on the frame. It seats on the frame at the front of the locking block.
