    Early prototypes had a delayed blowback that I believe was very similar to the FAMAS, but it didn't really work well, so they went to a gas piston system. It was actually in consideration by France to replace the FAMAS before they chose the HK416.

    There's a little bit of historical irony there. I believe the former Yugoslavia (of which Croatia was a part) helped Iraq set up their original AK ("Tabuk") factory.
