I had that happen to me (although it was in a soft case placed between the silent patrolman and the passenger seat of my cruiser), and that's precisely the reason I went with the setup as pictured in Post #97.
I've been going through a bit of a metamorphosis with my patrol rifles of late. My department does not issue a patrol rifle yet, but it's looking like it will be in the next 18-24 months. I used to mount my light at 9, but lately I've been changing my carbines over to make them more "ambidextrous friendly" as a test-bed of sorts to see which shows the most promise as being equally friendly for both righties and lefties. The X300 worked well, but it REALLY needs a lock-out. The Scout light with standard push button tailcap seems to work better than the rest so far and offers several advantages over the X300, as put down in my original post.
Vltor mount with a G2... Simple, cheap and effective.
I may get reamed for this post, but is it necessary to buy a NEW G2 with an led module?
I have two G2 lights with after market led modules than put out a ton of light. My son's has been used to find lost keys on a ball field and I have used mine at work to read container numbers of cans stacked 5 high.
I just bought 5 300 lumen 5 mode modules from a firm in HK for 25 bucks with free shipping. The 300 lumen figure may be bogus, but the damn things light up trees in the park behind my condo well enough to differentiate the leafs.
They work in the G2 and the clone aluminum 2 battery versions that can be had for a lot less than the G2.
