I've heard the 2.75" M69 can be a mule with magnum loads, but it sounds like the perfect gun to fit your needs.

The 4" version will be my graduation present to myself in a couple years. I love my 686+ and have a very nice Pachmyr grip lying around (it covers the backstrap with soft rubber and essentially duplicates the X-frame grip). Much like spare AR parts grow into extra rifles, so too will spare revolver parts.

I'll almost never fire .44 mag again unless it's from a Super Redhawk sized gun or a lever gun.

    I just learned S&W made a 329PD Night Guard 2.5 inch (29 oz) I'd like that or maybe a standard 329PD 4.2 inch. (26 oz)

Dang...they are $1100, and I'd probably change the grips and front sight on the standard 329. Kinda high for a fun / house gun!

I like short-barrel .44s, and have a few; S&W 296, 24 3", 29 3", custom Redhawk 3", Blackhawk 3.75". Besides the Scandium 296, I think all of the others are bigger and heavier than you want. I have a round butt on my 3" Redhawk, so it conceals pretty well in a good holster, though. Look for a 696, or try to track down a 696 cylinder and hand and build one in your desired length on a 686. One day, when I build a couple of 696 Mountain Guns, I'll sell off the rest of the 696 parts I hoarded.

    That's neat.

I'm just going to keep an eye out on the used market.
