    Spare Parts? Recommendations

I have a BCM 11.5 AR pistol, but the parts should be the same... I’m worried about gun bans, future proofing, etc (like the rest of us), and I want to get opinions on essential parts I need to stock up on.. like gas rings, extractors, cotter pins, etc...what is your list?

My next question is where is the best place to get them?

    Thanks.

I keep entire lower parts kits, extra bolts, cam pins, firing pins, retaining pin, extra springs, an extra receiver extension, extra extractor, ext spring, inserts, gas rings, etc.

In the gun itself, I keep an extra firing pin, bolt, cam pin, retaining pin, and spare batteries.

I buy parts from Brownells, G&R, and BCM.

I don’t have a list per se. But if you disassemble your BCG 100%. Every part you see in front of you should be the start of your spare list. As you can see, It’s better and more simple to just have a spare full bcg or two on hand.

    Plus
    gas tube or two
    Buffer or two
    Recoil spring or two
    Charging handle or two
    Full trigger or two

    Per rifle

Oh, and I’ve broken a grip handle before, so I have some of those in the parts box as well.

Spare parts are tricky. I had a gas tube and gas tube pin and used that to justify building a new upper...

Yep. For me, there's nothing more expensive than a few spare parts.

This is the issue. And it’s real.

    As for spares.

    The essentials:
    - Bolts
    - gas rings
    - firing pins
    - gas tubes
    - action springs
    - barrels
    - fcg springs
    - ejector springs
    - extractor springs

I like to also keep all parts to build up a few lowers and uppers if I get the urge.

I think if you have to have spare parts you should have the following:

    Pin, Firing

    Carrier and Key Assy
    Carrier, Bolt
    Screw, Carrier and Key (2X)
    Bolt
    Ring, Bolt (3X)
    Extractor
    Pin, Extractor
    Ejector
    Spring, Assembly, Extractor
Spring, Helical, Ejector and Safety Detent
    Pin, Spring, Ejector
    Receiver, Upper
    Handle Assembly, Charging
    Cover, Ejection Port
    Spring, Helical
    Pin, Grooved, Headless
    Clip, "C"
    Forward Assist Assembly
    Spring, Helical, Forward Assist
    Pin, Spring, Forward Assist
    Barrel and Barrel Extension Assy
    Nut, Barrel
    Spring, Slip Ring, Handguard
    Cap, Handguard

    Pin, Takedown
    Pin, Pivot
    Guard, Trigger Assy
    Pin, Spring, Trigger Guard
    Trigger
    Spring, Torsion, Trigger
    Spring Helical, Disconnect
Pin, Grooved, Headless, Trigger and Hammer (2X)
    Hammer Assy
    Spring, Torsion, Hammer
    Lever, Safety
    Disconnect
    Bolt Catch
    Plunger, Bolt Catch
    Spring, Plunger, Bolt Catch
    Grip, Pistol
    Srcew, Grip, Pistol
    Lock Washer, Grip Screw
    Button, Magazine Catch
    Spring, Helical, Magazine Catch
    Catch, Magazine
    Detent Buffer Retaining
    Spring, Buffer Retaining Detent

In order to keep them from lost or misplaced, I suggest attaching all of these parts to a spare lower.

Oh, and you should have a spare optic or rear BUIS . . .

While gun bans are a very real possibility, based on what the gun grabbers have tried so far, the banning of spare parts isn't. Personally, if I was in your situation, I'd wait until the market calms down before buying spare parts. The AR15 is the most common rifle in American history. Spare parts will be around for as long as we're legally able to own them.

If you are in this game long enough, you'll break or lose something.

So I have pretty much everything - including spare (complete) uppers, spare lowers, full parts kits, BCGs, and a barrel or two.

I resist the urge to build random parts and instead enjoy shooting what I have built up.
