McCarthy screamed communist at people the way leftists today scream racists at other people to impugn them.

That said, McCarthy did expose actual communist in the US government and in influential circles. But that's not because of careful investigative research.

But worse than that, McCarthy gave the left a rally cry, one right up there with Watergate where the mere mention kowtows everyone involved. He should have known better, he should have been surgical and accurate in his accusations.

McCarthy was the wrong messenger, but the message was spot on. Records revealed after the Soviets collapsed more or less backed up the accusations made against communists in America.

I'm almost 60, so I have seen a bit of history, I've got a minor in history and I've always had a keen interest in history.
We vastly underestimated the communist influence in Hollywood, academia and science and it's bit us in the butt so often that it changed our culture and not in the nicest way.
MaCarthy might have been correct he compromised the message because his ego was too big.
Fighting Communists and Socialists should be obvious to any free man.
