Canadian Army looking for new handgun

I'm curious to see how their selection and procurement process compare with ours. Hell, I didn't realize they were still using Hi-Powers:

"The program to replace the Hi-Power has been stalled for a number of years with complaints about parts breakages, limited supplies of spares and reliability concerns. While an excellent pistol the Canadian Army’s Hi-Powers are showing their age."

I would say Glock or Sig...but nobody's going to want to share their TDP with Colt Canada. Some of us remember what great polymer double-stacks Colt made....LOL.

Simple fix, just have CC dust off the BHP data package and crank out another run. No nasty licensing since it's open-source and no kludgy krunchenticker jamomatics. No need to work up a new training program for a new weapon either.

No way Glock or SIG is licensing for only 15-20K pistols unless Canada REALLy wants to make it worth their while.

I think the HiPoint Yeet-Cannon 9 would be a great choice.

If Beretta is willing to let Colt Canada make Tikkas, maybe they'd be willing to let them make APXs, too.

Yeah, for $500 / ea licensing rights, so CA is into each APX for like a grand or more.

Beretta isn't a 500 year old company because they are stupid...

It will be funny seeing the Canuks paying $1K for plastic fantastics that cost <$200 to make.

I think Glock 17's tend to do pretty well in snow and ice.

I'd just order G17's for the grunts, and G19's for the folks that need something more concealable, and call it good.

COTS programs can help prevent over-thinking, but that is rarely the way government operates.

That's actually a really good point; I forgot about that.

I can't think of Beretta and not think of what Vickers used to say:
"HK would easily be the most f*cked up company if Beretta didn't exist."
As a former and long-time HK guy...that's really saying something

Would be nice if they could get the G47 slide for a bit more versatility. G17, G19, and G45 with better logistics than just the G17 and 19 by themselves. Too bad Glock is being all Glock about the 47....

Just split the difference and get 45 MOS pistols for everyone. Add a dusting of threaded barrels for the few dozen people that will need them.

If you want to make it more complicated than go the CBP route with the 47, 19, and 26. Done.

Anything beyond those two options is over thinking it for 15-20k pistols IMO.
