Absolutely. And sometime down the road you will damage the image intensifier. Just think about it logically. If it could be done w/o problems why would the companies make the sight(s) with the added feature?

Thanks, I have no knowledge of NV optics so I wanted to know if it could be done for emergency purposes. I'm trying to justify $60.00 cost difference for my future purchase. I may or may not buy NV goggles in the future. And I need info to make the proper choice.

A word of advice. Since you have zero experience using NVG's and the specs I highly recommend that you do the following.

    1. Evaluate your need for the NVG to begin with. Do you really want/ need night vision capability?

    2. If you can answer yes (w/o lying to yourself) then I highly recommend that you seek some competent advice concerning what type to buy. Monocular, goggles, weapon sight, what generation, etc..etc...

    3. Understand the limitations of using NVG's and that it is difficult to use NVG's, epecially in a tactical environment.

    4. Generally when it comes to a sight that gives the option I always default to the better option.

    5. In an emergency, yes you could use a non-NVG sight, but it should only be done in an emergency.

I vote for spend the extra $60.00. Just the possibility of Night Vision usage down the road is enough right there. In addition to the dot being dimmer, Optics like the Aimpoint for example have different coatings to help with light transmission through the optic at night.

NOW that being said I run a Burris Fast Fire in front of a OMNI 4 milspec tube in a PVS 14 and I have yet to cause ANY permanent damage to my tube. Granted the OMNI 4 is arguably the toughest tube ITT ever produced and I don't run it for hours and hours either. Also the Burris flashes on and off in a high speed pulsing that is actually kind cool and easy to pick up in a hurry. I will try some experiments with an OMNI 7 autogated unit to see if that causes any extended history effects.

Also Iraqgunz is correct, NVGs are not something you just throw on and see in the dark, there is an important learning curve with them.

BUT if your truly interested, ask away Happy to help.

Sure, just use the head mount with a monocular on one eye and look through the sight w/ the other (both eyes open). This is how I use my PVS-14 and M68 (aimpoint) and prefer it this way.

Which eye do you run your 14 over and which is your dominate eye?
