GSPatton - stay out of this thread, and I'd recommend you rethink your participation in this forum. You appeared to have learned nothing from your temp ban.

That's not a request, and it's not open for debate. I'm also not interested in a PM conversation with you.

Can we get rid of this joker once and for all.

He isn't a Jew, he is a twisted idiot.

Regarding American aid to Israel, a lot of us would like it to stop. It was needed post 73 war. It is no longer needed.

But it will not stop, because the military industrial complex in the USa loves it as we have to use most of it to buy American weapons. The aid also has given the USA a veto over Israeli weapon sales for decades.

Be our friends, keep your money you really need it more than we do.

I actually really wondered if he was actually jewish or not. I guess we'll never know but he comes off as a caricature.

As far as aid to Israel, thankfully they are no longer our number one recipient, I think we still give more to Iraq currently and I'm honestly not sure how much is flowing to Afghanistan.

But despite the fact that Israel has been financially self sufficient for awhile now, the US still cuts them a check in order to have a say in foreign policy, like when we needed them to not respond to Iraqi scud attacks because it would have undermined the entire coalition Bush (41) formed when he decided to destabilize the closest thing to a modern democracy in the region and fuxored an alliance Reagan spent years developing and all because the UN was unable to mediate Kuwait slant drilling across the border into what Iraq considered "their" oil reserves.

We could have avoided two wars if we just stayed out of that mess in the first place.

As for Israel it's been long overdue to stop cutting them checks and instead cut the leash and let Israel do what Israel is going to do. I think I'd rather have them as a "fighting ally" in the region than say Pakistan. While Saudi is obviously centrally located as an ideal jump off point I think our presence causes almost as many problems as it solves. Even the royal family who depends upon our support to keep them in place really don't want us there as much as they tolerate us there.

I wish Egypt was more stable, they would make a logical ally both geographically and politically. If only the arab spring actually happened.

Agreed. Our foreign policy has been Fd for so long. We could have played nice with Saddam indefinitely if we would have supported his claim against Kuwaiti cross drilling. And maintained a relatively secular stabilizing power in a Muslim country. You can play ball with someone who values money over hard-line Islamism and Sharia law. Same-same with Syria. It’s completely insane how we supported “freedom fighters” and “rebels” made up of Islamists who hate the west in order to topple Assad. Libya too. It’s the exact opposite of what we should be doing. Saddam was a bad guy. Khaddafi was a bad guy. Assad is a bad guy. They all have done terrible things. But they kept the really bad guys at bay. And that’s worth something. Democracy is largely incompatible with the people living in Muslim countries of the Middle East. The people only know subjugation. While this sucks for them, they must rise up and create the government they wish to govern their countries. We broke it and we are still paying for it.

Actually Saddam ran a mostly secular government where even women could hold positions of power. He was obviously a brutal dictator but hell the Shah of Iran wasn't exactly nice either and he was our best buddy. We really screwed the pooch by refusing to mediate the conflict between kuwait and irag or failing that staying completely the F out of it. Didn't help that we trained Kuwait how to do it and sold them the equipment.

From Saddam's perspective he had just fought a decade long costly and brutal war with Iran that to a certain extent was a proxy war on our behalf. It doesn't take a genius to figure out he probably expected more support than he received and failing that, that we would buy Iraqi oil a higher prices than Kuwait in order to repay his efforts. Like the rest, he was a horrible brutal dictator but he could have still been presiding over a very safe and stable Iraq.

Iraq was one of the few places that would have been willing to roll tanks if we had problems with say...Yemen. They were also amazingly self controlled when it came to Israel stuff despite their official position that Israel shouldn't be allowed to exist.

If we devoted our efforts against Iran instead, we'd have probably created amazing stability in the region and had two quasi secular democracies. The risk of course was sunni - shia balance but that's been all screwed to hell anyway.

As far as technology goes, we're looking at possibly adopting Israel's "Iron Dome" counter rocket/missile system. And we've already bought their "Trophy" Active protection System for the Abrams tank and other vehicles. As far as I've read, Israel is the only country authorized to install their own homegrown electronics in the F-35 fighter.

So, they have some pretty smart engineers over there. Presumably there's been some classified technology sharing as well.
