Also, the double-whammy of California's online ammo sales restrictions is that even if a vendor will ship to California, it must ship to a local CA DoJ-approved "ammunition vendor" who then does a background check (and charges a fee).

The point is, it's an expensive PITA, especially for somebody who just wants to buy a couple boxes of 9mm to shoot his new gun...

In all honesty, I never checked the standard ball ammo, just the higher end stuff which is pretty close to the same price.

I don't know if this helps in CA but Federal has two different weights of American Eagle 9mm in stock, each limited to two boxes per order. $23 per box.
