Not really, but it still gets me every time.

Problem is, it doesn't take much to derail a train... and I dunno if BNSF is using the big heavy plows that could shove a bull moose aside safely.

It’s harder to derail one that you might think. Particularly if it’s moving along at speed, tends to just knock items off the track.

Yes modern engines have a heavy pilot on the front that will clear most debris or objects.

Thanks, CD. The newest units my family business took delivery of before going TU were Alco C430s and EMD SW1500's in January '68, and their first road diesel of any kind (old "covered wagon" FT's) were still five years away when my great-grandfather took us out of the business with his retirement in '39... and admittedly the last time I was trying to keep up and considering a career on the high iron was when SD90MAC's were still being hyped as "tomorrow's locomotive today." Hard to believe they went extinct so quickly.

Derailing a train helps the environment how? I am being serious because trains tend to carry some seriously nasty chemical loads. I have seen parts of where I live evacuated due to a few train snafus with regards to loading or offloading fertilizer chemicals. One of those times was when I was a child at church. The fertilizer plant and railroad were just a block away from the church. Granted this fertilizer business was small, and it is gone today and so is the railroad, plus the rice fields they used to service. ☹️ Oh and fertilizers is among the least of the nasties trains haul as cargo around the nation.

Yes, people are stupid. I guess on one hand we are lucky in that those criminals and terrorist are beyond idiotic when it comes to strategic and tactical thinking. Lastly they should make those terrorist clean super sites and other hazmat disasters for the rest of their short lives. They would be helping the environment, which they claim to love, plus grow some interesting tumors along the way.

A google image search of the names of these silly bitches yielded the results you would expect. Dumb bitch looks like Skrillex, and no one wants to make babies with Skrillex.

There were still a few SD90MAC’s running around on UP interchange stuff when I started. Unreliable is a kind way to describe the EMD H series 4 stroke in those. Most were converted to SD90/43’s with 4300hp EMD 710 2 stroke V16’s. They were still hot garbage. I think most have been scrapped, haven’t seen one in a very very long time.

Sounds almost like the 20-cylinder 645 in the SD45's or the old Fairbanks-Morse opposed-piston units, EMD's reach exceeded their technology's grasp to make a good idea on paper translate well into hard reality. AFAIK, even the conversions and the 710-from-factory 9043's have been at best dismantled and rebuilt into newer models other than maybe a handful that got sent to Australia.

These people probably have nothing to due with eviroment groups, probably antifa types trying to create chaos.
