Ledlenser has a lot of lights that have a fairly advanced zoom system that's worth looking into.
Ok, that makes sense, and answers one of my questions. Thanks.

Anybody have a TNVC Torch? https://tnvc.com/shop/tnvc-torch-pro...d-illuminator/ Now that I’m aware of why focusable flashlights are suspect, I wonder if its any good. How do IR illuminators do this reliably without waterproofing issues?

The Nebo Slyde series has the twist focus head. They also have a white/red flood panel on the side that you access by pulling the ends to extend the body. Also has magnet on the base. One became my default working above the ceiling tiles light. It has been abused (dropped it from a 14 foot ladder onto a concrete floor a few times) and keeps plugging along. For the price it is a decent tool.

Maglights have twist focus heads. The LED versions make a nice central bright dot to a wider flood. A good option if you want to stick with D, C, of AA batteries.

In the specs, I don't see an IPX rating listed, so not sure how good it is or isn't at keeping out water.

I have a Coast HX5(picked for the single switch and lithium AA friendly) that has slide focus, although I have locked that feature out with a piece of inner tube.

It has been mounted to a 12 gauge pump forearm for 5+ years which has been my only 3 gun shotgun during that time along with turkey hunting and it as always traveled to and from loose in the seat plus all the getting chucked in the dump barrels. has had field/dove loads, 2.75" & 3" turkey loads, and reduced/full power 2.75" buck and slugs.

While not a 'focusable' light, the Surefire DBR Guardian is a dual reflector light with a flood and spot, and meets both of those needs well. It doesn't have removable batteries, which can be a pro or con, depending on your use. But it's a good light that performs well. I did a writeup back in 2019 on it: http://www.militarymorons.com/equipm....html#stiletto

The 'IntelliBeam technology' is pretty cool, which adjusts the brightness of the beam automatically (you can program it on or off).

Thanks. I enjoy your reviews. I’ll look into that.
